Citizens from Taiwan who decide to travel to Europe will be required to apply for an ETIAS visa for the Taiwanese from 2020 when a new European travel visa known as ETIAS comes into effect. The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is being implemented by the European Union after several threats to EU security have been discovered due to a lack of information at border control level.
What do Taiwanese people need to visit Europe?
The ETIAS requirements for Taiwanese citizens are quite simple. All Taiwanese citizens need to present, when applying online for an ETIAS EU visa, is a valid Taiwanese passport, an email address and a valid credit or debit card authorized to make online payments.
If any applicant cannot supply one of these three basic ETIAS requirements, the person will not be able to access the EU visa for Taiwan citizens and will not be permitted to travel to any European Schengen zone country.
Once they have completed the online ETIAS application form, all travelers from Taiwan will need to pay the ETIAS visa fee using a credit or debit card via the online payment system.
How to apply for an ETIAS visa for Taiwanese citizens
Tourists from Taiwan who wish to visit Europe will have to apply for an ETIAS travel authorization by completing an online application form which will address the following:
- Basic personal information including name, surname, date and place of birth etc.
- Passport details such as passport number, expiration date and country of issue etc.
- And finally, some simple security questions pertaining to each individual’s health and immigration habits.
Taiwanese travelers will need to supply sufficient responses to these questions to then receive the approved ETIAS visa for Taiwan by email.
The European visa for Taiwan citizens will be confirmed for a large majority of applicants within hours of applying and will cause fewer complications with border and immigration control upon arrival.
The principle aim of the ETIAS visa is to speed up and secure Europe’s borders by including a screening process in the application. This means the information introduced by each traveler will be checked against various international and European security databases such as the ETIAS Watchlist, Interpol and Europol.
Traveling to Europe with ETIAS Visa for Taiwanese Citizens
ETIAS, the Europe visa for Taiwan citizens, once approved by the corresponding entity will allow the individual to gain access to the European Schengen area. It is a multiple-entry visa meaning Taiwanese citizens with a confirmed ETIAS can travel to Europe as many times as they desire for stays of no longer that 90 days in any 180-day period.
The ETIAS visa is valid for a total of 5 consecutive years or until the traveler’s passport expires. Once either the passport or the visa expires, Taiwanese citizens will need to apply for an ETIAS renewal and complete the application, pay the ETIAS fee and await their confirmed ETIAS visa a second time before traveling to Europe.
