ETIAS Visa for Lithuania

European visa waiver for Lithuania

As of 2021, the European Travel Information and Authorization System, or ETIAS, will come into effect. Lithuania is one of the 26 countries in Europe that will require travelers to have ETIAS visa authorization after this date.

Foreign citizens who travel to any country in the Schengen Area for business or leisure must apply for an ETIAS visa once the system is in effect. A Lithuania ETIAS will also be valid for travel within the other countries in the system.

The principal reason for the introduction of the Lithuania Europe visa is to improve security within the borders of Europe as a whole. However, the online ETIAS application is designed to be a simple and efficient process, so you’ll have your Lithuania Visa Waiver before you know it.

Lithuania in Europe

Lithuania is a small country in North-East Europe and one of the Baltic States alongside Estonia and Latvia. Although the capital city Vilnius is the second largest city in the Baltic States after Riga in Latvia, the population of the entire country is just under 3 million.

Historically, Lithuania had a close connection with its neighbor Poland, as the two countries formed a Commonwealth in 1569 that lasted for two centuries. After its dissolution, Lithuania was absorbed into the Russian Empire, and it remained under Soviet control with the other Baltic States until Lithuanian independence was restored in 1990. In 1989, it was determined that the geographic center of Europe was actually within the borders of Lithuania.

Lithuania joined the European Union in May 2004, and adopted the euro currency in 2015. Internal European trade currently makes up 61% of Lithuania’s exports. It has been a member of the Schengen Area, which allows free travel between member countries since 2007. It also enjoys close proximity to fellow Schengen Area countries Finland, Sweden and Denmark across the Baltic Sea.

Travel to Lithuania

Tourism in Lithuania is becoming increasingly popular, with the largest number of foreign visitors arriving from Germany, Russia, and Poland. There is a wide variety of attractions for tourists in Lithuania, from majestic national parks to stunning UNESCO World Heritage sites.

The Trakai Historical National Park is perhaps the most impressive Lithuania tourist attraction. This huge green area boasts over 200 vast lakes, and at its center you’ll find the town of Trakai itself. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to visit the historic town built on water and its striking, terracotta-colored castle.

Not far from Trakai is the capital of Lithuania, Vilnius, which was named as a European Capital of Culture in 2009. The many attractions in Vilnius include vast amounts of impressive medieval architecture and The Gate of Dawn, an ancient city gate which houses a painting of the Virgin Mary said to have supernatural powers.

If you’re looking for an adventure holiday in Lithuania, you could take a trip in a hot air balloon. Lithuania has the highest number of hot air balloons per capita, so it shouldn’t be hard to track one down!

But before you start planning where to go in Lithuania, you’ll need to make sure you have the right travel documents. If you’re visiting Lithuania from outside the Schengen Area, then from 2021 onwards you must obtain a European Visa Waiver Lithuania through the ETIAS online application form.
