On 2016 the EU announced that a travel authorization program would be created. Similar to the U.S. ESTA, the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) will be established to monitor visitors, control illegal immigration and secure the community against possible attacks. As of 2020 Chileans who wish to travel to the European Union for business or leisure will be required to enroll with an ETIAS visa.
What requirements apply for Chilean citizens who travel to Europe?
Chilean citizens will be required to have a valid passport, a Shengen visa, email address and a valid credit or debit card. Failure to comply to this requisites will result in an inability to apply for an ETIAS visa.
An ETIAS visa grants Chilean nationals an authorization to enter the European Schengen Zone. The ETIAS visa for Chile has been in fact created to reduce travel restrictions and improve safety standards for international travel.
All chilean citizens that apply for an ETIAS visa are expected to pay the fee in advance. It is possible to use a credit or debit card. Once the applications has been processed and approved, the ETIAS travel authorization is sent directly to the email provided during the registration process.

The application for ETIAS for Chileans include questions that relate to overall safety and security. Completion of the European Visa allows people of Chile to visit the 26 countries under the Schengen umbrella.
Travel to Europe with an ETIAS from Chile
Chilean citizens traveling to Europe with an ETIAS will be able to move freely in the Schengen zone during the duration of their visa or until their passport expires, whichever occurs first.
Once approved, the ETIAS visa is valid for a period of five consecutive years. Bear in mind that this will be obligatory as of 2020. Note that all Chilean nationals over the age of 18 are expected to comply with this new travel regulation. Minors are not required to file for the ETIAS and will not have to pay the visa fee.
The EU ETIAS visa permits Chilean citizens to travel to all the European countries in the Schengen agreement.
