The European Union will be launching an electronic visa waiver system in the year 2021 for citizens of over 60 eligible countries. The ETIAS system will be implemented to contribute to border control and increase security throughout the Schengen Area.
The ETIAS visa waiver will be available through an online application. Eligible travelers will need to complete the ETIAS application form with their personal details and passport info. All applicants will be required to pay a visa fee before submitting the application. Once approved it will grant the holder multiple entries to the region for a period of 3 consecutive years.
Citizens of the Bahamas currently do not need to obtain a visa Schengen to travel to any of the 26 member countries of the Schengen Zone. Bahamas nationals will be required to have a valid ETIAS visa waiver to visit Europe in the year 2021. For the time being, however, Bahamians can travel to the Schengen Area without a visa.
What Are the Entry Requirements for Bahamian Citizens Who Wish to Visit Europe?
Bahamian citizens who wish to travel to Europe, the Schengen Zone more specifically, need to meet general entry requirements. The most important document Bahamian travelers must have upon arrival is a passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the period of intended stay.
Citizens of the Bahamas are able to travel to Europe without a visa for short-term stays. If they wish to remain in the region for a period that exceeds 90 days, they will need to obtain a Schengen visa. Bahamian nationals are not allowed to live, work, or study in Europe unless they apply for the respective visas and permits.
As of the year 2021, once the ETIAS system is available, Bahamians will have to meet the ETIAS visa waiver requirements which include:
- A valid passport
- A current email address
- A debit or credit card
ETIAS will grant Bahamian nationals stays of up to 90 days in the region within a 180-day period. ETIAS will be valid for 3 years unless the passport expires first.
How Should Bahamian Citizens Apply for the ETIAS Visa Waiver?
Once the ETIAS visa waiver system is available, citizens of the Bahamas will be able to apply in a few simple steps. If the traveler meets all the necessary requirements, they can complete the online application form.
The ETIAS form will require that the applicant provides their full name, date of birth, place of birth, citizenship, sex, and contact details. Furthermore, each applicant needs to include their passport information. Before making the payment of the ETIAS visa waiver fee, the applicant must also answer a series of security questions regarding their criminal history, health history and whether they have traveled to conflict zones.
Once a Bahamian traveler finishes with the application and submits it, the ETIAS system will process the application by contrasting the data with a series of security databases. Most applications should be processed within minutes. However, it is possible that some applications take longer to evaluate. If an application sets off an alarm, it will be checked manually. Applicants will be able to verify the status of their application.
When the ETIAS visa waiver is approved, all of the information will be electronically linked to the traveler’s passport. The traveler is required to travel to Europe with the passport used on the ETIAS application.
Traveling from the Bahamas to Europe with ETIAS
Currently, Bahamian nationals are able to travel to Europe with just a valid passport. Upon arrival, they might need to provide information about their accommodation, and whether they have sufficient funds to cover the costs of their trip. All third-country nationals who visit the Schengen Area must go through immigration control.
As of the year 2021, citizens of the Bahamas will need to obtain an ETIAS visa waiver before their trip. Travelers should apply at least 72 hours before their expected date of departure. The ETIAS travel authorization will grant them stays of up to 90 days and can be used on multiple occasions over the course of its validity.
